Gas Infrastructure Europe elects Arno Büx, CCO of Fluxys

October 24, 2024

Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) General Assembly has elected Arno Büx, Chief Commercial Officer at Fluxys, as GIE’s new President for a 24-month term. Arno Büx takes over the Presidency from Torben Brabo, who served as GIE President since November 2020.

Munich, 18 October 2024 Arno Büx expressed confidence in the industry’s ability to adapt to future challenges, drawing from the lessons learned during recent crises. He highlighted the industry’s readiness, assets, and expertise to manage these challenges effectively. He added, “The diversification of our activities into new molecules and value chains, as well as collaborations with new partners, has broadened our scope significantly. Still, the security of supply remains at the core of what we do. And it is more relevant than ever.

Reflecting on the recent exchanges during the 21st GIE Annual Conference, the new President said: “We face a kaleidoscope of new challenges and opportunities. The industry’s capability to reposition its terminals, storages, and pipelines as enablers of emerging value chains—including the increasingly renewable electricity system—has been on full display. We may take time to get going, but once we do, we move forward with determination and precision.

He also emphasised the need to adhere to the fundamental principles of security, affordability, and sustainability while broadening the scope of technologies and pathways towards the common goal.  “We need to recognise both, the need for further decarbonisation and the fact that different regions started their journey from different positions and with different means.” He noted that pragmatism and cooperation have emerged as recurring themes in shaping the industry’s future: “We stand united, and we unite energies.

Since 2015, Arno Büx has been Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Fluxys, the Belgian independent gas infrastructure group focusing on transmission, storage, and terminalling for natural gas, hydrogen and CO2.

He has 30 years of experience in the energy sector, both in Belgium and internationally, in executive and non-executive capacities. In addition to his role at Fluxys, Arno Büx has been a Board Member of Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) since 2019 and served as President of Gas LNG Europe (GLE) from 2019 to 2023.  Arno Büx also holds degrees in engineering, business administration and corporate governance.
