Training session : Methane Emissions in the Gas Sector

Following the excellent reception of the Methane Emissions Report by the gas industry as well as  the Madrid Forum participants and the consequent recommendations of the EC to disseminate the content and the conclusions of the report, GIE, MARCOGAZ and the Energy Community Secretariat, with the support of the Methane Guiding Principles, organised the training session “Methane Emissions in the Gas Sector” on the 26th and 27th of November in Vienna. The aim of the session was to raise awareness and share the knowledge on the matter with a special focus on Central and South-Eastern Europe.

Training session : Methane Emissions in the Gas Sector

The training benefited of the support of trainers from the European Commission, the Florence School of Regulation, the Sustainable Gas Institute of Imperial College London and GIE and MARCOGAZ.

Attended by more than 80 participants representing 48 companies and associations from 20 countries in CEE and SEE, including the Contracting Parties of Energy Community, the training provided high quality educational material on methane policies, methane science, methane reduction strategies and planning, measurement techniques, implementation of BAT as well as targeting the reduction of methane emission.

Energy Community, GIE and MARCOGAZ invited the participants to join the action and the gas industry meetings.

Information on the session and the programme of the training can be downloaded here.

Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) is an association representing the interests of gas infrastructure operators active in gas transmission, storage and LNG regasification. GIE is a trusted partner of European institutions, regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders. It is based in Brussels, the heart of European policymaking.

GIE currently represents 70 member companies from 26 countries. Its internal structure has three columns corresponding to the three types of infrastructure activities represented: GTE (Gas Transmission Europe), GSE (Gas Storage Europe) and GLE (Gas LNG Europe), all of which fall under the umbrella of GIE. This structure allows member companies to speak with one voice on infrastructure topics as well as to build positions on column-specific issues.
