pdf  Press Release : European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas in cooperation with Gas Infrastructure Europe launches the System Development Map edition (440.27 kB)

The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG), in cooperation with Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE), has launched a new map series today dedicated to system development matters. This series should complement the already well-established capacity map series produced by ENTSOG, GSE and GLE.

The new initiative builds on the work done by ENTSOG in the area of Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) and Winter and Summer Supply Outlooks as well as on the transparency initiatives developed by Gas Storage Europe (GSE) and Gas LNG Europe (GLE).

The map series aims at providing a compact and regular overview of existing gas infrastructure and outlook for its development as well as of actual supply and demand situation at both the European and national level from the perspective of a respective year. It aims at establishing an easy reference for such information and at mapping trends and their development over time. As such it contributes to enhanced transparency of the gas market.

Stephan Kamphues, ENTSOG President said: “We are very pleased to launch this new tool today. We believe it represents a very innovative way of presentation of such data and information and we hope that these maps will become a key reference for stakeholders in the future. To provide the feel for the changing perspective that we also aim at capturing, we are publishing two maps today covering the years 2010 and 2011.

Jean-Claude Depail, GIE President said: “GIE and ENTSOG members are jointly demonstrating, once again, their commitment to increased transparency by aggregating in one single publication a large amount of information covering relevant aspects of the European gas market. We hope that these maps meet the expectations of market participants and contribute to facilitate further market development.”

ENTSOG and GIE are committed to further enhance the map features in the future and welcome feedback on this from stakeholders.

The maps are available for download at http://www.entsog.eu/maps and http://www.gie.eu/maps_data .

Notes to Editors

  • ENTSOG was founded on 1 December 2009 in line with Regulation (EC) 715/2009 and currently comprises 39 members and 2 Associated Partners from 24 EU countries, and 3 Observers from 3 non-EU countries.
  • In line with Articles 6, 7 and 8 of the Regulation (EC) 715/2009, ENTSOG has the task to elaborate network codes in a number of areas and to adopt a non-binding community-wide Ten-Year Network Development Plan on biennial basis, Winter and Summer Supply Outlooks, common network operation tools, recommendations relating to the coordination of technical cooperation between community and third-country transmission system operators, annual work programmes and annual reports.
  • GIE is the association representing gas transmission operators, storage system operators and LNG terminal operators in Europe. GIE has currently 70 members in 25 European countries. Its internal structure has three columns corresponding to the three types of infrastructure activities represented, i.e. GTE (Gas Transmission Europe), GSE (Gas Storage Europe) and GLE (Gas LNG Europe), all of which fall under the umbrella of GIE. This structure allows member companies to speak with one voice on infrastructure topics as well as to build positions on column-specific issues.
    • Gas Storage Europe (GSE) represents the interests of 30 Storage System Operators with around 110 storage sites in 16 countries in Europe, representing approximately 79 BCM, i.e. 88% of EU technical storage capacity

Gas LNG Europe (GLE) currently gathers 14 European LNG terminal operators from 9 countries, representing around 90% of all the existing LNG regasification capacity in Europe
