Call for Candidates – Secretary General

In view of personnel changes within its Secretariat, Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) AISBL is looking for candidates to join the GIE Secretariat Team (Avenue de Cortenbergh 100, 1000 Brussels) in the following position:

Secretary General – Full time 1

Under the responsibility of the President of GIE, the Secretary General shall:

  • Lead, manage and monitor the GIE Secretariat Team (5-6 people);
  • Ensure the day-to-day operations of GIE in line with the GIE Statutes;
  • Prepare GIE General Assembly, GIE Board and GBSC meetings and ensure follow-up of decisions;
  • Advise GIE Board, i.e. on the evolution of the strategy; detect needs, propose and implement new initiatives which deliver higher benefits for GIE;
  • Represent GIE towards institutions, external stakeholders and at events in order to promote the interest of GIE and its members;
  • Ensure strong liaison with GIE members through information provision, close dialog and regular contacts, and ensure that the activities of GIE reflect GIE members’ expectations;
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with EU officials and regulatory authorities, press and other stakeholders…
  • Prepare, manage and monitor GIE’s annual work programme, budget and accounts;
  • Manage and monitor external suppliers for outsourced and consultancy services;
  • Improve GIE’s image and credibility through the organisation of internal and external events, especially the GIE Annual Conference;
  • Ensure the proper functioning of IT services provided by GIE: website, membernet, REMIT reporting, AGSI+/ALSI…
  • Ensure periodic update of GIE publications, maps and data.

The candidates should have the following technical competences:

  • University degree;
  • At least 10-15 years of relevant experience, and a solid background in the natural gas industry, preferably in regulatory/public affairs affecting the gas infrastructure business;
  • Good command of Office tools : Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Good command of written and spoken English (working language of GIE); knowledge of French is an advantage, knowledge of other EU languages is welcome.

The candidates should have the following non-technical competences:

  • Excellent and proven management skills in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Good diplomatic skills and political sensitivity;
  • Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders;
  • Good organisational skills;
  • Excellent internal and external communication skills;
  • Solution-minded, creative, proactive;
  • Ability to represent GIE in a professional and confident manner.

GIE offers to the successful candidate a unique experience of managing a European trade association.

The successful candidate will by directly employed by Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) AISBL for a 3-years limited duration contract, with a possible extension up to 2 more years. He/she should start working on a full-time basis for GIE on 1 October 2016, at the latest. The place of work shall be Avenue de Cortenbergh 100, 1000 Brussels, Belgium.

Based on the applications received, GIE will establish a short-list of candidates, at its sole discretion, who will be contacted for the further steps of the selection process. If GIE does not provide feedback by 17 June, the application is not considered for the position of Secretary General.

According to the GIE Statutes, the job title is currently “Executive Secretary”. It is expected to be changed to “Secretary General” by GIE General Assembly on 9 June 2016.
