Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) members elect Jean-Marc Leroy as their new President

The General Assembly of Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) held today in Brussels elected Jean-Marc Leroy its next GIE President. Jean-Marc Leroy has been member of the GIE Board since 2005 and served as GSE President from 2008 to 2012. Jean-Marc Leroy succeeds Jean-Claude Depail who has served as GIE President since 2010.

Since 1 July 2015, Jean-Marc Leroy is Senior Vice President at the Infrastructure Business Line of ENGIE. Prior to that, between January 2009 and July 2015, he was Chief Executive Officer of Storengy, the underground gas storage operator of ENGIE. He previously held several senior positions in the infrastructure business: Deputy Vice President of the gas transmission division at Gaz de France and responsible of LNG terminals and storage activities of GDFSuez.

GIE is the European association of gas infrastructure operators in the area of transmission, storage and LNG. Currently, it represents 69 member companies from across Europe. GIE is committed to shaping and implementing a transparent, secure, sustainable and competitive gas market in Europe underpinned by a stable and predictable regulatory framework and a sound investment climate.

Jean-Marc Leroy said: “Gas Infrastructure Europe has always been committed to developing a fruitful cooperation with EU policy makers and stakeholders and to strengthen ties between infrastructure operators. I would like to thank Jean-Claude Depail, who has helped GIE to become a well-established and highly-appreciated partner at the EU energy scene. I am deeply honoured to be entrusted the Presidency of GIE and I will strive to further reinforce the association and to continue developing a strong voice for gas.”

He added also: “Many challenges lie ahead for gas in Europe but I am convinced that the industry will successfully meet those by turning them into new opportunities for growth. Technological and commercial innovation, decentralization and sustainable solutions will be key words for the gas industry in the years to come that will warrant a long-standing important position of gas in the energy mix. In this context, GIE will seek to work closely with other stakeholders to promote synergies across the whole energy chain for the sake of creating an efficient and sustainable energy system in Europe.”
